I spy something.... ORANGE!!!

Charles, Lily and I headed out to Old Baker Farm to take part in some harvest season activities. Lily took particular interst in the petting farm. I was extremely nervous her little fingers would quickly become the harvest feed!!!Lily watching the baby calves drink their baba...(milk in a bottle). She would have much rather been on the other side of the fence participating in supper!!!Lily and Daddy in the pumpkin patch! It was a tough pick... we had 25,000 pumpkins to consider to be the possible pumpkin on the Sullivan porch! It could have been a loooong night....Fortunately this little one had a eye for good crop... and she knew these just weren't going to do... But this pumpkin... might have made the cut.
Of course it will need a thorough test. It feels just about right... And it meets Daddy's approval... Well, we decided on something a little smaller... it was a perfect pick! But it wasn't much smaller- it gave our little pumpkin a run for her money..
We rode with our pumpkins for 2 miles on a hayride around the farm!!! When we got home... we got straight to business. "Dad, are you sure about this? I mean... I might get messy...." Lily didn't hesitate long... She is a master pumkin carver!
Yuck!Well, there is no harm in trying everything once... Lily did an excellent job of scooping all the seeds out of the pumpkin! She was very proud of her accomplishment... even if it meant getting a little messy!Of course, we saved our seeds to make a tasty treat! Charles made two batches of yummy roasted pumpkin seeds (He's the domestic one, and an great one at that)! He made one slightly salted and one cinnamon sugar. TASTY! Yes Lily, you can eat them now!But don't give up faith on me just yet, I tried my hand at a sweet Halloween treat!
Lily and I baked a PUMPKIN CAKE!! Orange icing was a little bit of a challenge and my help got a little fustrated with my novice skills!
Ta da!!! It must have been magic...
Happy Halloween!!!

P,S.--That pumpkin carving, and the pumpkin cake as well, ought to be in a magazine! You should send it to Real Simple or somebody! Love, Mama
